ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., March 16 - Botox is transforming the face of America, according to the 2005 National Plastic Surgery Statistics compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The tally showed 3,839,387 Botox treatments last year. Other popular minimally invasive procedures were: chemical peels (1,033,581), microdermabrasion (837,711), laser hair removal (782,732), and sclerotherapy (589,768).
In all, there were 10,238,730 cosmetic surgery procedures performed last year, which is up 11% from 2004. But the increase was driven by a 13% increase in the number of minimally invasive procedures, the culmination of a steady five-year increase in office-based procedures, rather than traditional procedures.
Since 2000 minimally invasive cosmetic procedures have climbed by 53%, marked by a whopping 388% increase in the number of Botox injections.
