Recently, Allergan published some of the myths around Botox:

MTYH: Botox is unsafe.

FACT: Botox has been used therapeutically for 11 years. The same formulation received FDA approval in 202 for treatment of the moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.

MYTH: There are creams that are better than Botox.

FACT: Topical cream only act on the surface, while Botox act on the underlying muscles that form the creases. When these muscles relax, the skin relaxes and the creases smooth out.

MYTH: Botox will leave me with a frozen face.

FACT: Although your muscles are relaxed, they are not paralyzed. You can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.

MTYH: Botox is only for the rich and famous; people like me do not use it.

FACT: A recent survey among 1,048 Botox patients showed that:

·         Working mothers between 40 and 55 are the most common users of Botox.

·         Those with annual incomes under $100,000 were 44% more likely to use Botox than patients with annual incomes above $150,000 (35%).

MTYH: There is now way to know if I am getting authentic Botox.

FACT: Your doctor can identify an authentic vial of Botox by the imprinted ALLERGAN hologram on the label. Only Botox manufactured by Allergan has received the FDA approval.

MYTH: If I stop using Botox, my face will look different than before.

FACT: The effects of Botox can last up to 4 months. When the drug wears off, your face will return to the pretreatment condition.

MTYH: Botox isn’t for men.

FACT: Men constitute nearly 10% of all Botox treatments and the number keeps growing.

MTYH: Some aesthetic procedures can leave light spots on dark skin. Botox is probably no different.

FACT: Since Botox works only on the underlying muscles, it can be administered to patients with varying skin types and colors.
